Health Promotion Life Style and Perceived Health Status of Middle Aged Women

Abstract
This study was conducted to identify the baseline data of health promotion life style and perceived health status of middle aged women for developing nursing intervention. Data were collected from 130 middle aged women who were 40-59 years old in T metropolitan city and M small city from August to October, 1999. Instrument used in this study were the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile and Perceived Health Status scale. The data were analyzed with mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Two way ANOVA using SPSS pc+ program.
the findings were summarized as follows:
The mean scores of health promotion life style were 76.96 in general, 78.14 in metropolitan city, and 75.79 in small city. There was no significant difference between metropolitan city and small city in the score of health promotion life style although the mean scores in metropolitan city is higher than that of small city.
The items of health promotion life style were ranked by "try to stop smoking" "try to stop to drink" "maintain meaningful interpersonal relationships in general, "try to stop smoking" "try to stop to drink" "maintain meaningful interpersonal relationships" in metropolitan city, and "try to stop smoking" "try to stop to drink" "maintain meaningful interpersonal relationships" "feel happy/content" in small city.
The mean scores of perceived health status behavior were 50.06 in general, 50.80 in metropolitan city, and 49.32 in small city. There was no significant difference between metropolitan city and small city in the score of health promotion life style although the mean scores in metropolitan city is higher than that of small city.
Health promotion life style was positively correlated with perceived health status.
There was no significant difference in health promotion life style in general, metropolitan city and small city according to general characteristics except the level of education. The mean score of group which were graduated from the high school was higher than that of group which were graduated from the lower level of education than high school.
